In 2020 I decided to try my hand at painting for the first time since High School! I've always been a collector of Breyer horses and had many old beat up and battered ones that could use some TLC. So, Painted Poneez was born! I mostly paint them for my own enjoyment and creativity-but they are also available to purchase.

2026 Set Sail into Sturgeon Bay

Title: THE CURSE OF DEATHS DOOR

Sponsor: Westwood Shores Resort

The inspiration for my sail: Deaths Door, Great Lakes and its own pirates; alongside a disney Disney franchise I enjoy

Concept design submitted for approval

The blank canvas (top left) that I started with and its progress....

Started my project at home (with a little kitty supervisor; but had to move to bigger space for the size of the sail

early progress (top) and finished (bottom)

Close up of details, ship names, and skeletons

My artist statement for this project:

“My sail is Door County and the Great Lakes, meets Pirates of the Caribbean. The sail includes the iconic Jolly Roger and my design of a skull lighthouse (a nod to the Great Lakes pirates: “King” James Jesse Strang and “Roaring” Dan Seavy). The names of ships lost to the Deaths Door Passage are listed (book credit: SHIPWRECKS AT DEATHS DOOR) and the golden hourglass with wings represents the passage of time (one of Pirate Christopher Moody’s symbols). This is my 2nd Sturgeon Bay street art project and I am happy to share my creation with you. Enjoy!”
